Charity Box City
‘If there be among you a needy man, one of thy brethren, within any of thy gates, in thy land which the LORD thy God giveth thee, thou shalt not harden thy heart, nor shut thy hand from thy needy brother; but thou shalt surely open thy hand unto him, and shalt surely lend him sufficient for his need in that which he wanteth.’
Deuteronomy 15
Walking in the streets of the ultra-orthodox city of Bnei Brak, one cannot escape the overwhelming visual chaos. The chaotic environment is dominated by the masses of charity boxes which hang on almost every street post, bus station, and garbage bin. This unique phenomenon is the subject of the Charity Box City series. Observing, learning and framing the coexistence of people and these ‘demanding’ metal objects.
The book 'Charity Box City' is available in Hebrew.
